A student of Federal University Oye Ekiti has been shot dead while a police officer was seriously injured during a clash between the students and officers attached to the convoy of the wife of the Ekiti State governor Erelu Bisi Fayemi. It was gathered that the incident occurred in Oye Ekiti during a protest by the students over poor power supply in Oye Ekiti Trouble started after the students barricaded the major highway and prevented the convoy of the wife of the governor from passing. Erelu was said to be on a tour of the sixteen local governments of the state which started yesterday. An attempt by the officers attached to the convoy to disperse the crowd resulted in a clash leading to the death of a student name withheld while the students was said to have also attacked a police officer who is currently battling with his life. Some vehicles in the convoy were also damaged by the students. When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti state Caleb Ikechukwu confirmed the attack on the convoy but said the police did not shoot at any student. He said the police was aware of the rights of the student hence efforts were only made to disperse them before they started attacking innocent people. Ikechukwu said investigation had commenced and culprits among the students would be arrested.
