Some residents of Ire-Akari, Arenja and Apipororo communities in Ifon Osun, Osun State, have cried for help from the government and other well meaning Nigerians following the rampaging flood that has destroyed their millions of Naira worth properties. When our correspondent visited the affected communities, it was a pitiable situation as the victims helplessly watched their valuables as they waste away. While giving his account, a victim, Mr. Abdullahi Ismail attributed the incidence to the untended attitude of government towards the improvement of poor condition of the drainage that links to Arenja area. Another victim, Mr. Rahamon Ridwan, of Ire-akari area lamented that the heavy loss was as a result of the houses built close to the bank of the river, adding that it was compounded by the inability of the government to effectively manage town planning in the area. The situation was worse at the Apiponroro area as the victims could not control their sad mood. One of them, Mr. Abeeb Abest, who spoke with our correspondent posited that the flood has caused unaccounted anguish to the dwellers of the residence as houses were collapsed. While seeking government’s intervention and that of other generous Nigerians, the victims in their separate accounts explained that most of their valuables including farm produce have been eroded. They however jointly called on the state government to rise up to its primary task of protecting lives and properties of the citizens from the ravaging flood, adding that laws must be made to forbid people from blocking waterways for any reason and the laws in place must be upheld.
