Oyetola salutes Pa Ayo Fasanmi for his noble efforts to entrench good Governance as the elder statesman turns 94.


Governor, State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has commended the elder statesman and a Second Republic Senator Pa. Ayo Fasanmi for his efforts in diverse political struggles, agitation for good governance, persistent resistance against military rule, bad governance and administrations.
Mr Oyetola said this noble efforts of Pa Fasanmi has been a beacon of hope and a pillar of light and encouragement to the younger generation of politicians and public administrators.
Governor Oyetola gave the commendation at the Senator Ayo Fasanmi’s 94 Birthday Lecture held in Osogbo on Thursday.
Mr Oyetola who was represented by his Deputy Mr Benedict Alabi described the Nonagenarian as a living content and indeed encyclopedia of progressivism and dedicated practitioner of the ideals.
According to him, as an astute and progressive politician, a humane and a visionary leader, it is not only the unusual intelligence of the elder statesman that befuddles co-politicians and acquaintances but also the infinitely inelastic capacity to relate with people of diverse ages, background and political inclinations and bring the best out of them.
Governor Oyetola maintained that as a person, he has known the celebrant for many years even before his foray into politics and he has seen in him a trained pharmacist who has faithfully transfered the ideals of service to humanity which his training entails into the larger business of politics.
In his words, ” it is appropriate to commend and appreciate Pa Ayo Fasanmi for his kind and noble gesture, respect for loyalty, posterity, resilience, thoughtfulness, forthrightness, long years of commitment to succeed in the face of even excruciating odds, all of which are being celebrated through today’s lecture in his honour.
“We must therefore be very grateful to this rare-breed (and his likes in our political firmament) for his unrelenting efforts and invaluable contributions to the furtherance of the tenets of democracy, extension of the frontiers of public administration, the deliberate enrichment of the culture of good governance and enduring civilization, if only to preserve the authentic narratives, labours, toils and achievements of our forebears.
“It is my considered opinion that other elder statesmen, irrespective of differences in their chosen career or vocation should emulate Pa Fasanmi”, Oyetola said.
The 94 Birthday Lecture of Pa Ayo Fasanmi which had as its theme “Ayo Fasanmi: An Epitome of Consistency and Loyalty to Progressive Ideals” drew important personalities from all walks of life especially from the progressive political family among who were the the Governors of Ekiti and Ogun states who were represented by their deputies as well as the National Leader of the APC Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by Senator Ademola Sheriki.
Others included the first interim National Chairman of APC and former Governor of the state Chief Bisi Akande, the former Deputy Governors of Osun and Oyo States, Otunba Laoye Tomori and Chief Iyiola Oladokun who was the guest lecturer at the event.
